Gujarati Dal is a very delicious and healthy dish prepared from toor dal and Indian spices. This dal is a staple and comfortable food at Gujarati meal. Its simple and easy to make. This goes well with hot steaming rice or rotis. Lets look at the steps to make this Gujarati dal.

Gujarati Dal

Preparation Time : 5 mints | Cooking Time : 20 mints | Serves : 2 - 3

Ingredients :

Ghee - 1 tspn

Mustard seeds - 1 tspn

Cumin seeds - 1 tspn

Hing - pinch

Red Chili - 1

Curry leaves - few

Kashmiri Red Chili Powder - 1 tspn

Toor Dal - 1/2 cup

Tomato - 1 chopped

G. Chili - 3 slitted

Ginger - 1 tbspn chopped

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tspn

Salt - to taste

Jaggery - 1 tbspn

Coriander leaves - 2 tbspn chopped

Lemon Juice - as needed

Method :

1. Wash and pressure cook the dal for 3 whistles. When the pressure is fully released, mash the dal nicely. In a kadai,add a cup of water,turmeric powder, green chili, tomato, ginger and mix well.

2. Keep this in medium flame for 5 - 7 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small pan, heat the ghee. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds. and allow it to sputter. Then add the red chili, curry leaves, hing and red chili powder. Turn off the flame. After 7 mints, add the cooked dal, salt, jaggery to the boiled mixture and stir well.

3. Cook it for another 5 minutes. then add the tempering to the cooking dal and stir well. Cook for another 3 minutes , add coriander leaves and then switch off the flame. Finally add lemon juice before serving.

Gujarati Dal ready to serve..!!
