BOMBAY SAMBAR / KADALAI MAAVU SAMBAR
Bombay Sambar is the most simple and tasty sambar variety which is perfect side dish for idli and dosa. It can be made quickly in no time as no dal or vegetables are used in time. This is also called besan or kadalai maavu sambar.
I learned this from my aunty and this is most suitable for breakfast. Lets look at the steps for making this sambar.
Preparation Time : 10 mints | Cooking Time : 20 mints | Serves : 2 - 3
Ingredients :
Oil – 2 tbspn
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tspn
Cumin seeds – 1 tspn
Cinnamon – 1 inch stick
Cloves – 2
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tspn
Curry leaves –1 sprig
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tspn
Salt – to taste
Besan – 1/4 cup
Green chili – 4 nos ( slit )
Sambar powder – 1 tspn
Big onion – 1/2 cup(finely chopped)
Tomato – 1/2 cup(finely chopped)
Coriander leaves – 2 tbspn(finely chopped)
Method :
1. Mix gram / besan flour in 1/2 cup of water without any lumps and set it aside. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Once it starts spluttering add cinnamon,cloves,g.chili and curry leaves.
2. Add onion and ginger garlic paste, saute until transparent. Add chopped tomatoes along with required salt until mushy. Add turmeric and sambar powder to it.
3. Mix well and cook for 2 mints. Then add 2 cups of water to it(depends on the consistency you want) and bring it to boil. Cook for 5 mints.
4. Now add the gram four mixture and cook for 10 mints. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and switch off the flame.
Besan Sambar is ready to serve..!!
