VAZHAKKAI MASALA PORIYAL
Vazhakkai is also called as Raw Banana. Vazhakkai Masala Poriyal can be had as side dish had with sambar , rasam , morkuzhambu or even with variety rice. This recipe is made in less time and its so tasty side dish for main course. Adding the small onions and garlic also enhances the flavors of the poriyal

Vazhakkai - 1
Oil - 3 tbspn
Mustard seeds - 1 tspn
Curry leaves - few
Garlic - 3 cloves
Shallots - 10 nos
Tomato - 1 small
salt - 1tbspn
Turmeric - 1 tspn
Hing - little
Red chili powder - 1tbspn
1. Wash and peel the raw bananas and chop it in thin slices as shown in the picture. Take the chopped raw banana in a bowl filled with with water. So that it wont turn black.
2. Add salt, turmeric powder and red chili powder and toss it to coat the masala nicely in the raw banana pieces. Also chop garlic,shallots,tomato and curry leaves finely.
3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add curry leaves, garlic fry till garlic turns golden brown color. Then add the shallots and tomatoes. cook till soft. Then add the coated raw banana pieces to the pan .
4. Toss the raw banana once and keep the flame low and cook them. Then sprinkle very little oil if needed and fry them and then remove from flame.
Vazhakkai Masala Poriyal is ready to serve.
