Onion raita is the best side dish or accompaniment for the briyani. It is also served along with other rice items,pulao and even for parota. This is called as thayir pachidi in Tamil. There are many varieties of raita such as cucumber raita,carrot raita,radish raita and so on.. This is the simple side dish and easy to make.

Thick Curd(Yogurt) - 1 cup Big Onion - 1/2 large sized
Coriander Leaves - 1/2 tbsp chopped Salt - to taste
Black Pepper - 1/4 tspn
1. Peel the skin of the onion and cut thin lengthwise and separate it with hands .
2. Add it to the bowl and mix salt. Set aside for 15 mints. It leaves some water. Remove it and add to the serving bowl. take the curd and beat well without lumps with spoon or hand beater.
3. Then add the curd , coriander leaves and black pepper to the onions and mix well. Now the raita is ready to serve.
