MOONG DAL SAMBAR / PASIPARUPPU SAMBAR

Pasipruppu Sambar or Moong dal Sambar is a type of tiffin sambar variety with mild spices. It can be had with idli , dosa , chapati and pongal. This sambar is very quick sambar to make in less time . As this is mild sambar it can be had by all age people. It is made of only moong dal with onion and tomatoes and not added any tamarind or coconut. Lets look at the recipe now.

PASIPARUPPU SAMBAR

Preparation Time:20 mints| Cooking Time : 40 mints|Severs: 3

Ingredients:

Moong dal - 1/4 cup

Shallots - 15 nos

Tomato - 2 (Medium)

Oil - 3 tbspn

Mustard seeds - 1 tbspn

Cumin Seeds - 1 tbspn

Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tbspn

Curry Leaves - little

Red chili - 1

Hing - 1/4 tspn

Salt - 1 tbspn

Turmeric - 1/4 tspn

Sambar Powder - 1/4 tbspn

Water - As required.

Directions :

1. In a pan heat oil add mustard , cumin and fenugreek seeds allow it to pop . Then add the curry leaves , red chili , Shallots. Cook till the onion turns pink . Then add the tomatoes.

2. Then add the hing,salt,turmeric,sambar powder and cook till tomatoes are marshy. Wash and cook the moong dal in pressure cooker for 3 whistles and mash it. Add it to the tomatoes once its cooked .

3. Add the required amount of water and cook till raw smell goes. Then add the chopped coriander leaves .

Serve the sambar with hot idli / dosa.

My Notes :

1.If you like the flavor of coconut in sambar you can grind 2 tbspn of coconut and add at last.

2. Instead of red chili you can also add green chili.
